His Good.

I'm not technically supposed to be posting again, but I couldn't just leave things as they were. Things really do look better in the morning. Once again... hope comes to the rescue and won't let me wallow any more. As you take on the day and the challenges that await - may you have hope in knowing that THIS day His compassions are new for you.

1 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:

22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."

25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;

26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.

Lamentations 3

My bad.

me: shoot!
Valerie: but i like it!
me: it's my turn to post!
totally forgot!!
i've been waiting
Valerie: haha
yep
lol no way!
thats too funny
me: i will do that tonight!! my bad
Valerie: no prob :)

And here I sit... "tonight" with nothing to say.

Other things that are my bad: being selfish, crying on the phone with D twice today, not taking a shower, worrying rather than trusting, eating Mexican food for dinner and not having any leftovers to go into a box when the waiter came with the check, wearing frustration on my face for far too long, acting like I'm bi-polar, forgetting to be thankful... need I go on?

Thank the Lord that tomorrow is INDEED, another day.

The latest and they happen to be the greatest...

-We are getting gussied up and going to THIS tonight. It's a theater awards show. I might be up for something. I'll let you know the verdict.

-I am happy to report that there have been ZERO breakdowns in the past week! Thanks for the encouragement.

-I WON a drawing! This almost never happens. I love my little blog world.

-TWO fabulous showers this weekend. I am so blessed to have such loving friends and family.
-You know when radio stations say "caller number 9 wins"? Apparently they mean it. David called in on Sunday afternoon and we won tickets to a small Natasha Beddingfield concert. So maybe we had to google her to remind ourselves if we knew another song other than "Unwritten" - turns out we know one other.

-This week: speaking at a "Christian Club on Campus," meeting up with students on Wednesday morning at 6:45am for "See You at The Pole," and lots of little things to accomplish.

Seacrest, out.

Armed and Rangerous

"36 Hours till Daybreak"
Installment #3 in this thrilling short story
by an 8th grade me
(Start with parts one and two and get caught up.)

New York, 6:30pm

"Blair?"

"Oh yeah, hi Kurt!"

"Sorry to call again but this was an emergency."

"What is it?"

"David Bradley is dead."

"Dead?"

"Yeah. It looks like he was shot while he was starting his car."

"What a way to go."

"Talk about it."

"Well anyways, I wanted to let you know that I might be a little bit late coming home."

"How late?"

"Maybe another week."

"Blair, you know I need you back here to present the story that you did over the air in the subway."

"Get someone else to introduce it."

"Darnit Blair. Carol is on her honeymoon, Jerry already has three stories at once, and Angela... well you know..."

"Yeah I know. Look, I'll do my best to get back by Saturday and you, in the meantime, should look for a sub."

"Okay."

"Well, I need to get outta this house."

"What? You're at Bradley's house??"

"Apparently I was the last person to speak to him, so the police want me around for a while."

"You're not a suspect are you?"

"Heck no. I'm just... here."

"Blair?"

"Nothing. Oh, by the way. Call Nick for me and tell him I won't be able to make it to the marriage counselor on Friday."

"What? You can't call your own husband?"

"I don't need this from you Kurt! Bye."

"Blaire!"

"What?"

"Be careful."

"Good-bye."

Blaire got off the phone feeling very guilty. Her marriage was on the rocks and she couldn't even call her husband. "I am such a coward! It's not that I don't love him, I do... we just are too strong-willed for each other's own good," she thought. When they were first married life was fine. Nick had his job at the college and she was an anchor woman for channel 6. That was in Connecticut. Then she had a miscarriage and Nick decided to go back to school, and they saw less and less of each other. Blair got a job with ABC on Nationwide as a reporter in New York. She had a two hour commute to work. But now she and Nick had been separated for two years.

Her story was her life... but now with David Bradley's death her ticket to the top had been stolen from her. And from what the chief had told her, Blair was beginning to conclude that this murder had something to do with her. Blair was the only one in the house. It was beautiful. Now she had a chance to view it at its full. She had called Kurt while she had been sitting on a white leather couch. The hand of a decorator had graced the walls with flower arrangements and black and white pictures. Rugs lay across the white tile floor. A friendly portrait of the family sat over the fireplace. "Now their world is shattered," thought Blair.

Blair knew she should tell the police everything, but then there would be the risk of her story leaking to the press. She yawned and glanced at her watch - it was almost 7:00 and she was hungry. Maybe tomorrow she would tell Chief Conol.

"Mrs. Stevens," the young sargeant called. "You have a phone call."

"On the Bradley's line?"

"Yes."

Blair walked back into a bedroom where the second line of the house was.

"Hello?"

"Yes. Blair."

"Yes, who is this?"

"I think you know!"

Suddenly the line broke and Blair was left with her fears and a dial tone. It was 6:58pm.

* * * *
Wowsas. I know I can't wait to find out what other things innanimate objects can do. How bout that dialogue? Oh Blair... at least you have your fears AND a dial tone.

Yeah.

So maybe...

-I had a meltdown on Sunday evening and my sweet fiance found me in a hallway quietly sobbing in the dark.
-I purchased the 6th and 7th pairs of shoes that I might "possibly" wear on my wedding day.
-I just had the 8th consecutive month of not winning ANYTHING at Bunco night.
-I didn't run this morning in hopes of preventing another meltdown.
-I drank 100 ounces of liquid in a 2 hour period. (No really - 2 Route 44s and a 12 oz of water.)
-There are 33 days until a celebration and I am so ready.
-Maybe that's all I've got tonight. First dress fitting is in the morning.

Then again... maybe not.

Please Be Our Friend.

After Movie Club this afternoon (today's movie: Contact), we kept the TV on, and after watching some ungodly amount of golf (?), we transitioned to our lovely local news station and were sucked in by the interesting circus that is small-town local news. Particularly the weekend edition.

They threw the story to a reporter who was standing by at the local TGI Fridays (approximately a mile away from where we were sitting watching the news), who was reporting the groundbreaking story of the expectation of a very large crowd to watch the Cowboys game in the bar area.

After watching this young reporter, with his loose tie, electrical taped-microphone, and devil-may-care attitude, we came to the very logical conclusion that he is probably a lot of fun to hang out with in real life. And I then took the very logical next step of looking him up on Facebook to get some further info on this local newsman. Well guess what- he is totally our age, and has awesome taste in movies (Inception! Moon! North by Northwest!), television (Whose Line! Lost! LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON!) and general interests (Film! Television! Theatre! Deloreans!). Yes- this guy was definitely someone we want to hang out with.

Also: he looks just like hilarious Alex from Alex Reads Twilight.

We got another sign that we should totally be friends with this guy when we arrived for dinner at IHOP (Yes- it IS open during daylight hours! I was shocked too. Aren’t you only allowed to go there when everything else is closed? (Apparently not.)) and saw the news van driving away from TGI Fridays back to the studio! This is totally meant to be.

After that we talked about him like it was a foregone conclusion that we’d all soon be fast friends. “I bet Casey would think that’s funny.” “Casey would probably love to come to Galveston with us.” “Casey would never call me sweetheart.”

I don’t know how often reporters Google themselves (probably pretty often, right?), but Casey Claiborne, if you’re reading this, we totally want to hang out with you.

And to the young waiter who accompanied handing me my drink with a “Here you go, sweetheart”: No.

Moved, Mover, Moving

It's a little late - try two weeks to the day... but that's all I've got. Forgive whatever you just saw. It's been a long week. Anyone else feel like time is going both at warp speed AND slow motion at the same time?

It's true. There was a scorpion. I have photos, but I don't have the camera. David ended up taking the cover off the light and my sweet friends who came to help me move took it home as a pet. That's right. Elliot the pet scorpion. Erin gets mother of the year award for that one.

I moved out of my apartment but now I'm living as a gypsy. My furniture is at D's house, my clothes are with me here at my Arizona Family's house, and my books are at the office. One of these days I will have one home... maybe.

For now I'm off to my work home and then to my theater home tonight to see "Into the Woods" with some friends from "Camelot." That's a fun sentence. Ok... moving on.

Band

One time when I was a junior in high school, band class was a little bit extra boring and slow. So my awesome Mormon friend Johnny decided to put his extraordinary powers of hilarity to good use and entertain the band.

He organized it with the entire trumpet section ahead of time, and then just waited for Mr. Reynolds to get mad at one of them (a regular occurrence anyway). Then Johnny just said "I'm sorry Mr. Reynolds" and another trumpet guy sang "oooo!" in a falsetto voice and all of the trumpet guys sang "I am for reeeeeeal!" (Do you remember that song? "I'm sorry Miss Jackson?" Well it was very popular when I was in high school.)

But Mr. Reynolds was not in a jolly mood that day, so he just threw his baton on the ground and stomped away from the podium for a little bit. I tried not to double over laughing (that was my usual reaction around Mormon Johnny) because COME ON, Mr. Reynolds. You have to admit that was funny. And it took planning, so.

36 Hours Till Daybreak* (original spelling)

Sometimes 'til just needs a little umph. I provide that.

I'm continuing the little trip down memory lane with part 2 of my short story from 6th... ok, maybe 7th or even 8th grade. You can find part 1 right here.

* * * *
"36 Hours till DAYBREAK"
Part 2
DFW Airport, 4:42pm
"I look like a mess," thought Blair. She was in a crowded restroom trying to bring life back to her face. She had not taken well to her flight, and now the thought of her flight to New York put more sag into her shoulders. She grabbed her earrings out of her purse and pushed them through her ears. She quickly dabbed powder to her nose and put on some lipstick.
"At least now I look human," she mumbled under her breath. As her shoes clicked along the floor, she realized that she needed to confirm dinner with her source. She looked for her cell phone, but it was roaming.
"Great!" She glanced over at a pay phone, forcing a quarter into it she dialed the number. After three rings a male voice answered.
"Hello."
"Yes, this is Blair Stevens. May I please speak with David Bradley?"
For a while there was no sound.
"Mam... I'm sorry but Mr. Bradley is unable to speak with you at the moment."
"Well will you confirm with him our dinner plans for this evening?"
"One sec."
A muffled sound came through the receiver.
"Ms. Stevens?" A new voice rang out.
"Yes."
"I'm sorry to tell you this... but Mr. Bradley was killed in his car this morning."
No sound.
"Mam?"
"Um. Yes. I'm here. This is just shocking news... I... um..."
"Yes?"
"Well, I just talked to him this morning over the phone."
"Ms. Stevens, I'm Jack Conol, the chief of police and I was wondering if you would mind coming over here for some questions?"
The home of the Bradleys, 5:36pm
"What am I doing here?" though Blair as she pulled up to the crime scene. She got out of the red Accord she had rented. Her long legs ached as she walked up the sidewalk. Several cops looked at her. She knew even at 35 she could still turn heads. She purposefully directed her gaze forward as a balding man came towards her.
"A smart looker," thought Jack. "Ms. Stevens, sorry to inconvenience you, but since you seem to have spoken to Mr. Bradley many times recently, and you might be the last person he spoke to, we had to ask you to come."
"I understand," said Blair.
"Good. Now let's go inside to talk."
As Blair and Conol quickly walked into the house he smiled. He was glad the two were talking... glad Bradley was dead. Now it would be that much easier to get rid of Blair.
* * * *
I hope that I too can one day be like Blair - pushing earrings through my ears and still making heads turn at 35. HAH.

Baby We Were Born to Run

I had such a blast watching the Emmys on Sunday night. (Truly just as fun as last year's amazing show.) Is it any wonder? JIMMY was involved!

If you missed it, check out his awesome opening number. I can't get enough:

Later in the show he did a hilarious tribute to some of the shows that finished their runs this year:

Of course, you can't forget Jimmy's appearance at last year's awards!

And all of this reminds me of one of my favorite Emmy moments ever, the intro Conan O'Brien made when he hosted in 2006!

What's YOUR favorite Emmy moment?
