Princess Preference

Choosing a favorite Disney heroine/princess tends to be a fairly popular habit of most of the young women I work with. I would like to make a brief argument for my choice: MULAN.
1. Mulan is the only princess to appear on a DVD cover with a weapon.
2. Mulan gets the good guy AND defeats the bad guy (kicks tail).
3. The end.

The only logical follow-up question: who's your favorite Disney heroine?

*This is not my favorite Disney movie, only my favorite female. Please don't send me hate mail.

I'm going to go with Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" - gotta love the bookworm habits, her departure from the social norms of her little village, and her sheer courage and determination.

I also love mulan. she is awesome. and her love seems more about a relationship, and less about feelings. this is my complaint with disney movies; they teach girls that love is about feelings, or that you are no good without a man. BAD! and, here is my complaint with mulan, even though it is my favorite disney movie: it all boils down to one thing: boobs. everything changes with the boobs. awkward.

@ Sarah - Belle is a close second. I love that she has desires other than singing. :)

@ Kimberly - BAHAHA. Agreed.

This reply is long overdue, but. I have to make the case for another frequently forgotten Disney 'princess', Megara from "Hercules."

Meg is one of the very few Disney princesses that actually has a sense of humor. She is never without a quick, witty quip, and her disarming comments frequently leave Hercules stalled in his tracks. Her dialogue is less cute Disney cartoon and more 1930's film noir femme fatale.

Like Mulan, Meg is no wilting flower; in fact, the first time we meet her she is in a situation that most Disney princesses would be desperate for a rescue from. However, Meg assures Hercules she can handle the situation and sends him on his way. ("I'm a damsel, I'm in distress, I can handle this. Have a nice day.") And in the climax of the film, Meg is the one to sacrifice HER life to save Hercules, surely the only time something like that happens in a Disney cartoon.

In conclusion:

"Megara. My friends call me Meg. At least they would if I had any friends. So did they give you a name along with all those rippling pectorals?"

"Pinhead with hooves? Well, you know how men are. They think 'No' means 'Yes' and 'Get lost' means 'Take me, I'm yours.' ...Don't worry, maybe Shorty here can explain it to ya."

"I'm a big tough girl. I tie my own sandals and everything."

"Thanks for everything, Herc. It's been a real slice."

ROXANNE! Oh wait, she's not a princess... and she doesn't really do anything...
In that case, I agree with you. Mulan.
